Travis’s Story

Travis James Gustavson was born on July 21st, 1999, in Mankato, MN. He was only twenty-one when Fentanyl Poisoning took his hopes, his dreams…his life.

Travis was smart, funny, caring and a bit adventurous. He always had a smile on his face. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing with his Mom and Dad and brothers, Matthew and Carter; tubing on the lake with his cousin Andrew, spending time at the ‘falls’ with his friends, skateboarding and gaming He loved his brothers, Matthew and Carter and he loved his cousin Andrew, who was his best buddy and friend for life. He adored his cousins, Emily, and Jacob, and he was so delighted to be an Uncle for the first time to Isaac. He had a circle of friends that he loved and trusted; Matthew, Andrew, James, Hunter, Luis, Justin, Jake; just to name a few. He was a young man who was loyal to his family and his friends. He was the first one there, if you needed help.

He loved holidays with his family. 4th of July and Christmas were his favorites; but any holiday that he could be with his family, he was there.

He will be missed by all of us…. We love you Travis 💜

This isn’t how it was supposed to be.

There are hundreds of thousands stories out there, Travis’s is just one of many. Just visit the DEA Memorial Wall and see all the beautiful faces

This is Travis’s story, this is our story, BUT… there are hundreds of thousands other victims of this epidemic, a great percentage of who died from fentanyl poisoning; and they all left families behind to grieve and wonder why this happened to our child, to our family. Every single person, from toddlers to senior citizens, who has been taken by this epidemic, no matter the substance that took their life… they all have a story. But the one thing they all have in common is that they didn’t want to die from this disease.

If any family would like to share their loved one’s story and photo here, with Travis, we would be honored. Please contact us at the following email:

Sharing our journey means embracing vulnerability, hope and determination. We need to talk openly about the battles we are fighting and celebrate our successes. Every word we say is inspired by Travis. We fight because we lost him, we fight for change to honor him…. but we fight for your children’s future because Fentanyl took Travis’s future.

Together, we break the silence, shatter the stigma, and pave the way for a future where every individual receives the compassion and care they deserve.

Addiction is a disease, not a choice.
